Gemstone coloring tutorial: prismacolor colored pencils

After hearing from a few people that wanted to know how I was able to color my gemstones in my latest piece, I created a tutorial to show just how I did it.

If you have any questions on this tutorial, please feel free to message me.

Supplies that were used:
Canson 140lb cold press watercolor paper
Prismacolor pencils (1099, 1027, 1066, 910, 913, 989, 289)
White belly roll pen
Prismacolor colorless blender pencil.

  1. Hello, I have the colorless blender, but I feel it is very hard and damaging the color and paper. How do you use the colorless blender?

  2. I think that pencil 1066 has to be 1006. You show 1006 and say 1066.

Great tutorial, it made me buy prismacolor! Thanks Cat!

  3. Hi!! This is fascinating!! Would u happen to know what colors in the Faber Castell Polychromos line would be comparable to the Prisma colors that you used??

  4. maybe you don't realize hoe little we can actually see.
your hand is in the way most of the time…. wrong camera angle ? the result is great for sure…but as a tutorial you should reconsider the placing of your camera.
    thanks anyway

  5. That was very detailed and helpful. Thank you very much. Also, your art is SPECTACULAR. I can’t wait to be able to do that.
