How To Make Juice For Pre Ride Energizing - GCN's Food For Cycling

Juices are a great way to get all the nutrients, vitamins and minerals in fruit and veg without all the bulk. Here’s how we make one of our favourites.
Follow GCN on YouTube:

Juices mean that you can still eat a good carb heavy breakfast before a ride yet still take on board a load of goodness from fruit and vegetables. To make this particular juice, you will need:

2 medium-sized beetroots (beets for our american friends) (top and root removed)
2 medium-sized carrots (tops removed)
2 stalks celery
1 small piece of Ginger
1 apple
1 lemon
1/2 cucumber

To make, simply pop all the ingredients into the juicer, adding the stronger flavours first. Add in lemon to taste at the end – though we find that you’ll pretty much always need a whole one.

  1. If you notice the clock in the background, when Dan starts drinking the juice it reads 9:10, when he is almost finished it reads 12:10. Lol, 2 whole hours to finish it off.

  2. Tuned in to watch 'How to Make Juice For Pre Ride Energizing'. Next Video suggestion, show Dan how to set the clock on the Cooker :)

  3. i DID add some beats headphones to my smoothie in the vitamix! they are finally good for something! added a bit of nuance to the flavor though a bit metallic tasting because of the magnets etc. not sure i can recommend it, but if you need to do something with your over-priced beats, you can consider it

  4. I have started to have this every morning I have done a little tweaking with it  adding tomatoes which makes it a lot sweeter or ad pinnaple juice or apple juice to make it sweeter It has  improved my perfomance on the bike and losing weight

  5. I find that it makes my throat sore to over come this idilute it with 300ml of warter and 100ml of apple juice or fresh pinnapple.

  6. Masticating juicers are the better way to go as they do not aerate the liquid and produce more juice. Centrifugal juicers (while quicker) produce less overall juice and introduce air. Just some food for thought.

  7. I make beetroot juice which is packed with iron the most important vitamin which gives you strenth for your muscles

Boil several peeled and diced beetroot in warter  ad lemon juice and bit of sugar to sweeten leave to cool over night .  Put some in to your warter bottle ad lemon energy drink. Be carefull with it it can stain your gear.

  8. haha, I'm imagining the taste as I see you guys putting in one thing after another. Trust me, it does make a difference if you peel the carrots and beetroot, but then the LEMON guys. You put it straight in with all the peels (!!!) (the amount of essential oils even if not pesticides), no wonder it's so hard to stomach it. Imagine if Strava counted all these suffer points 🙂

A few extra recipes: apple + pear + ginger, and beetroot + orange.

  9. I just tried this recipe and the result tastes pretty bad… honestly. This coming from someone who likes all the ingredients separately, including raw lemon, this juice blend is just awful. Better try the other more minimalist beet juice recipe found on this channel.
