How to Start a Business with No Money

How to Start a Business with No Money

I have been running my own businesses now for over 13 years, and during that time I have been approached by countless people all asking me pretty much the same thing, and that is, “how do I become successful in business?”

If you ask 100 people that question, you are going to get 100 different answers. This is because most of the people you ask are going to talk to you about a specific business model, sales idea, or marketing tactic, etc…

In my opinion, the answer is simpler than that; however, I can’t actually take credit for the simplicity of my answer.

Back before I started my last company, I was given some business advice that, at the time, I thought was the dumbest thing I’d ever heard. It didn’t make sense to me, because I wasn’t yet in business.

Years later, I’ve come to realize that it was some of the smartest advice that I’ve ever received. I say this, because, after following the advice, I ended up building a company that I sold for .2 million back in 2008.

In the video post below, I share with you exactly what this advice as, as well as how I put it to use in my own business, and, it is my hope that, after watching this video, you will do two things; share the video with others, and take my advice to heart.

  1. hey great way to get views by providing a very intriguing title that most people will click on. Also, thank you delivering on none of what your title alluded to, classic bait and switch routine (i'm guessing this is how you do most of your business). always nice to see snake oil salesmen at work.

For those who ARE actually interested in starting a business with no money (raise the bar to say start with LITTLE money, you will need some) of course it's possible but it's not EASY. you have to have an IDEA a good idea and you need to do your due dilligence by researching the market, (on your own) to determine if there is a true "pain"/ demand that you are solving. IF that is the case, then you will need to build a team who you will need to convince your idea is worth pursuing (unless you are skilled enough to be a soloprenuer but the failure rate is MUCH higher. You will need to find team members who fill the gaps that you lack yourself such as technical, business development, etc. You can search sites like founderdating. These people can help develop a prototype with you, all for "free" within the understanding that you're embarking on a lean startup mission and there will be equity splits. Next you'll need to raise capital (seed funding) you could try for an accelerator or just pitch to angels. you'll need a good pitch deck and everything. You'll want to use social media and email marketing campaigns or other free strategies to promote your product. The initial development of the prototype is going to cost SOME money but be smart about it. You don't have to break the bank. Read startup success stories and learn what the greats did because most people did NOT get small million dollar loans from their father 🙂 I also recommend Guy Kawasaki's the Art of the Start book.

  9. Watching this presentation through, the most profound part is the most profound advice. "DO" business to be IN business. The thing is, everybody is IN business – finding/securing daily needs – interacting with people – influencing others – making life better/or worse – developing character/or the opposite – being trustworthy/or not – pursuing a job/or not – learning and self-training/or not.

Thank you, Trent, this aids my clarity of vision for a start up that's been on my mind for two years. With a recent webinar from a team of former Amazon seller guides, your apt insight gives the mental and operations knowledge I lacked to create a successful start, sans the money mentioned in the title.

  10. the best profits that ive ever had was with the Secret Profit Crusher (i found it on google) without a doubt the most incredible idea that I have ever followed.
